A Poetry Book

I finally put together a little poetry book.

It is twenty-six pages of poetics and photography. It represents a colorful overview of my origins, fantasies, and spirituality. This is the dark and light of it—the pain and suffering, the joy and delight.

 My Mother’s Garden

My mother’s gladness thrives

in splotches of orange tiger lily,

 wavering yellow daffodils,

 and raging pink cosmos.

 Their friendly perfume

 sweeten her spirit

 while she bends beneath a flutter of butterflies;

 shooing away the squirrels

 that gnaw about their roots.

 My mother’s joy is nurtured

 In carefully dug patches,

 summered around the brick-red house

and tended with an old farmer’s skill.

silent

Bedded within this heart of flesh

Deeply swaddled by blankets of faith,

Lies the stellar peace of God--

Which silent, embraces my soul

Beyond understanding

or human knowledge.

Holy quiet enfolds me,

And loves me,

And comforts me well

Through

The soundless night.
